Duna de Pyla
The Duna de Pyla is a special place, mainly due to its location. It borders the south basin of Arcachon, and it is contained in its two longer sides by the Atlantic Ocean and a dense pine forest that stretches as far as the eye can reach.
Based on a project of Magnus Larsson presented in TEDGlobal 2009, we decided to form our space with the same sand dune. Larsson wants to convert some of desert landscapes into habitable structures, sand dunes transformed into a solid architecture using bacteria. A team of UC Davis has been researching the microorganism Bacillus pasteruii to solidify the sand and turn it into sandstone.

We created three annex spaces, each one with a dominant element.

FIRE
EARTH
AIR
WATER
The entrance room is the largest one, and symbolizes the Earth. Since is built with the same sand as the dune, the viewer feels close to the nature. The columns create different sensations while the space is crossed.
The smallest room symbolizes the Fire. The access is through an arch, and there are small excavations in the wall with lights (fire) to illuminate the space.
The room that symbolizes Air and Water is a more open space. From this area you can see the sky and enjoy the sea, reflected in a large mirror that rises above the dunes. And there is a stair that goes to the top of the dune.

Cirque de Gavarnie
The Cirque de Gavarnie is in the French Pyrenees. As its name suggests, it is a semicircle and rises almost 3000m over the sea level.
The circus creates a feeling of ambivalence:
- Being surrounded by mountain, we can feel a sense of security.
- But a space so big, so wide and so tall makes us feel intimidated.

Our intervention is to dig the rock to a certain level and make a kind of living corridor where travelers can sit quietly and admire the landscape.
The intention is to create a protecting space from feelings of ambivalence. Even though we can see outside the circus in all its extent, our visual limits remain in the area of rest and observation.
