Nau de les Arts. La Escocesa

Factory refurbishment. Thesis

The neighborhood of “La Escocesa” has been neglected for many years. In 2007 “La Escocesa” becomes one of the factories that forms the “Fàbriques de Creació” program (Creation Factories). This program is based on transforming disused spaces into new spaces of culture and innovation. It also generates different activities and revitalizes the city.

This project proposes the complex as a host for all kind of arts, and supports the cross-cutting concept.

Administration

The area of administration consists mainly on two parts. One especially for the team of “Associació d’Idees”, which is currently in charge of “La Escocesa” management. The second is devoted to public service as an information point or lockers.

Common areas & Recreation & Literature

It is clear the desirability of an exhibition hall and an auditorium/theater. At the same time there is a specialized library, combined with spaces designed to get tellers and literary recitals.

Public and semi-public outdoor spaces

There is an intention to merge some of the open spaces with the activities performed indoors. As well as providing decompression among volumes.

Cinema

Most spaces can be applied to movies as scenes. Although there is a production room and a recording room specific for cinema, shared with the branch of music.

Theatre

In terms of space types, theater and dance disciplines are very similar. The rehearsal rooms can also be used for small performances, and dressing rooms.

Dance

The rehearsal rooms require paved surfaces and mirrors.

Music

The areas devoted to music have special requirements. The rehearsal room and the specialized recording room need soundproofing and good acoustics.

Painting & Sculpture

They require large spaces associated with areas devoted to material storage. As well as good lighting control.

Photography

Photography has evolved over time. There is the willing to take into account new technologies to design these spaces. It needs a multipurpose room with specialized areas, classes/workshops, and a dark room with space for specific machinery.

Arts and crafts

When we talk about arts and crafts we refer to many different disciplines, such as design and fashion, architecture, and other arts. Multipurpose flexible rooms are planned for these branches.
